Lucky loser Ram takes Newport title

World number 181 Rajeev Ram of USA has become this seasons first lucky loser to win an ATP title. Ram shocked 3rd seeded Sam Querrey in 3 sets with a score of 67(3) 75 63 to lift the Newport trophy, claim 250 points and prize money of $79,000. Ram was definitely a "lucky" loser since he was a replacement for Mardy Fish who decided to take part in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
Ram also won the doubles title with Jordan Kerr of Australia defeating Michael Kohlmann of Germany and Rogier Wassen of the Netherlands in 3 gripping sets in which the score was 67(6) 76(7) 10-6.
