Davydenko gets through a scare

World number 11 Nikolay Davydenko was tested in his first round match in the Mercedes Cup. The Russian played Spanish Ivan Navarro in a 2 hour 36 minute encounter in which he had to think quickly and fight back for the win. He prevailed with a score of 46 75 63. Davydenko has not played at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, Germany since 2005, and did extremely well today on saving 4 break points.
At the Catella Swedish Open, sixth seeded Florrent Serra of France was upset by local hope wildcard Andreas Vinciguerra in a three setter, which was pure delight for the crowd. The final score was 67(5) 63 64.
