Breaking news: Federer takes the French Open crown

After watching Rafael Nadal lift the French Open trophy three consecutive times, Roger Federer got a taste of winning this prestigious title himself after beating breakthrough player Robin Soderling in straight sets. The score was 61 76(1) 64 after Federer showed an exceptional performance to take his first Roland Garros crown. Federer became the sixth man in history to win all four Grand Slam titles, and has now tied with Pete Sampras' 14 Grand Slam record. He was presented with the Coupe des Mousquetaires by another one of the six men that completed a Career Slam, and that was Andre Agassi. He is awarded 2000 ranking points which virtually assures his place at the year-ending championships in London. Federer also had a crazy thing happen to him while playing the second set of a match when suddenly a man jumped onto the court and tried to put a red beret onto his head. But that did not shake Federer's performance as he sealed the match in an hour and 55 minutes. (Turned out the man was from Barcelona).

"This is the most satisfying win of my life, along with my first Wimbledon," Federer said. “I have tried for so many years, so there was much pressure involved... I always believed in it but it becomes harder with time.”
