The top seed Roger Federer enjoyed a solid performance in his first round match against Yen Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei. The new French Open champion showed his confidence in a straight set win to bring him to the second round of competition. Federer is going for his sixth title at the All-England Club, and might endanger Rafael Nadal's chances at staying number one after Nadal pulled out of the event. Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also made progress, but James Blake let himself down as he was beaten by Andreas Seppi in straight sets with a score of 75 64 76(5). All other seeds got through comfortably.
