Filippo Volandri of Italy has been banned by the ITF for abusing an asthma drug. He will miss the Australian Open and be banned from the tour for three months.
The Italian Tennis Federation announced the ITF's news on Friday, saying Volandri's use of the salbutamol was deemed beyond therapeutic needs. The ban began on Thursday and will end on April 14.
109th ranked Volandri failed the drug test at a tournament in Indian Wells, California; and was supposed to play Mario Ancic at this week's Australian Open.
The ITF also announced that all of Volandri's results from March 13 will be voided, including $166,000 in prize money and the ranking points gained in the last nine months.
