Nadal and Murray deliver; Hewitt out


On Day 2 of action, Andy Murray was up first on Rod Laver Arena and gave it his all by beating Andrei Pavel of Romania 62 31. Pavel was unable to continue because of a back injury. Pavel was considered no threat for Murray, with a ranking of 1,140th and 34 years of age. After the match, Pavel told reporters he is retiring from tennis.

Rafael Nadal showed some awesome tennis by easily taking his victory of 60 62 62 in just 1 hour and 17 minutes over Belgium's Christophe Rochus. Home favourite Lleyton Hewitt has been upset by 13th seeded Fernando Gonzalez after battling it out in a five-setter, with the final score being 57 62 62 36 63.

Other winners include Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Ernests Gulbis, Richard Gasquet, James Blake and Gael Monfils.
