The Indian Wells tournament which draws most of the world's top players each year, now has new financial backing and a new name.

Formerly the Pacific Life Open, the event will now be named the BNP Paribas Open, with the title sponsor being a France-based bank that's one of the largest in the world. BNP Paribas also sponsors other tennis events such as the French Open, the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup.

The new name will be used for the tournament on March 9-22 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Organizers also announced that for the first time in the history of the event, both men and women will be offered an equal purses of $4.5 million.
