For the first time in men's tennis history the top eight men on the tour have made it to the quarters at a single tournament. Roger Federer was the last to complete the line-up as he defeated countryman Stanislas Wawrinka, after Wawrinka had a 3-0 lead in the second set but couldn't get it together allowing Federer to take charge to victory with a score of 63 76(5). Rafael Nadal made quick work of Philipp Petzschner as he knocked him out with a score of 63 62. And among others, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray got their work done in straight sets with Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro having to work it out in straight sets. Roddick barely made it to the quarters after he defeated tenth seeded Fernando Verdasco 7-5 in the third set tiebreak.
