Federer and Nadal heat up competition

Roger Federer today faced American hopeful and former top player Taylor Dent. Dent was having one of his best weeks of play after being down for at least 3 years with back injuries. The Fed Express showed no mercy as he took out the American with an simple score of 63 62. Federer will next face another American Andy Roddick in the quarters.
Rafael Nadal on the other hand had a little bit of a shaky performance against Stanislas Wawrinka. Nadal was clearly unhappy with his performance as he showed frustration in his 76(2) 76(4) victory. He will now face Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, against who he has a good record. But who knows, he had a good record over Wawrinka too.

Nadal blows away Murray for the title

World number one Rafael Nadal showed his great form once again as he completely thrashed British number one Andy Murray. The winds were a test for both the finalist as well as the champion in the Californian desert, but Nadal was the quicker to adapt. The Spaniard ran away with the first set in 41 minutes, and though Murray gained a bit of confidence in the start of the second set, he became more frustrated with the winds and Nadal took advantage of the situation. Nadal took victory in 1 hour 20 minutes with the score being 61 62. This is Nadal's 13th Masters title.

Nadal and Murray into final

Rafael Nadal showed some great play against Andy Roddick but was a little rusty and didn't show his best play. The Spaniard broke Roddick in the seventh game of the opening set, and in the second set Nadal was up 5-3 when suddenly Roddick caught up and took the second set to a tiebreak. Nadal then managed to set up a matchpoint against Roddick by hitting an ace, then Roddick fired a return wide to give Nadal victory. The score was 64 76(4).
Andy Murray enjoyed the same fate as Nadal, when he threw Roger Federer out with a 63 46 61 win.

May the best man win in the final!

Roger Federer playing his first tournament since losing the Aussie Ope3n final eased through the first set over Fernando Verdasco, and looked to be cruising through the second as he was up 4-1. But Verdasco managed to break Federer twice to take a 6-5 lead. Federer then held his nerve to win the tiebreak 7-5. The final score was 63 76(5).
Earlier that day, Andy Murray took to the court against Ivan Ljubicic and showed great mentality as he took the first set 75 after breaking Ljubicic in the 11th game and holding his own serve. The next set saw both players exchange breaks, but Murray stayed composed to win the tiebreak and the match 75 76(6).

American wildcards battle in the desert

American wildcards Ryan Sweeting and Wayne Odesnik were put against each other in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open, and boy did they put on a show!
Wayne Odesnik had no trouble sealing the first set 61, and it looked like everything was going according to plan for him. That is until Sweeting stepped up his game and caught Odesnik by surprise by taking the second set 64. The third set was all about who had more will, and that is when Sweeting proved too strong as he took the final set in a gripping tie-breaker which he won 7-5. Game, set and match... Ryan Sweeting.
Other winners include Tommy Haas and another wildcard Taylor Dent.

See you soon!

Nalbandian out with virus

David Nalbandian of Argentina will not be taking part in this week's Davis Cup because of a viral infection.
Nalbandian was bothered by the infection at last month's Mexican Open, in which he lost to Daniel Koellerer of Austria in the first round. Juan Martin del Potro could be Nalbandian's replacement this weekend in a tie against the Netherlands.
Argentina's Davis Cup captain Modesto Vasquez stated "Nalbandian is not in physical condition to play".

Murray out of Davis Cup

Andy Murray has announced that he will not be taking part in the Great Britain vs Ukraine match because of a lingering virus.
Murray said that he hasn't recovered from the virus which caused him to pull out of the Dubai Championships last week, stating "Obviously, I'm very disappointed that I won't be playing in Glasgow this week, but the doctor has told me that I need complete rest for at least seven days, and I have to respect that," said Murray, who has won ATP titles in Doha and Rotterdam this season.

"I hoped that pulling out of Dubai when I did would give me enough time to recover, but this virus has hit me harder than any illness I've had before and I still feel terrible."

No statement has been released yet about who should replace Murray.

Fish wins Delray title

Mardy Fish triumphed today at the Delray Beach Championships by beating Russian Evgeny Korolev. This win for Fish marks the first time in the 17 year history of the tournament, that the top seed won the title. Fish won with a score of 75 63.

"Today was one of those matches where you just want to get off the court with a win," Fish said. "It was like I don't care what the score is, I don't care what it looks like, I just want to get off this court with a win."
"I'm happy to win this tournament. I love coming down here and my family were able to be here -- my mom, my dad and my sister -- they're never able to travel. And it was nice to have [my wife] see how it feels for me to win it."
