Federer continues run; Djokovic shocked
Roger Federer showed his crafty skills with ease today as he defeated one of the French hopefuls Paul-Henri Mathieu. The Swiss man looked rusty in the first set and lost it 64 but then elevated his game by giving Mathieu a hard time and finally taking the match with a score of 46 61 64 64. He will now face former world number 2 Tommy Haas, who is the oldest player left in the draw.
Meanwhile, Philipp Kohlschreiber posted the biggest win of his career over world number 4, Novak Djokovic. Kohlschreiber won 5 out of 10 break points and was broken twice in the encounter which took 2 hours and 21 minutes to complete. Djokovic showed no signs of desire and looked flat as he was sent home by the 29th seed with a score of 64 64 64.
Other winners include Andy Roddick, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Juan Martin del Potro.

Nadal closes in on fifth consecutive French Open
Rafael Nadal showed his great form once again on his home turf in Paris with another smooth win. The Spaniard played against former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt, and totally nailed him with a 61 63 61 score. He is now into the last 16 at the French Open 2009 and will next play against Robin Soderling who blew David Ferrer away in an epic battle.
Novak Djokovic got to finish his match from yesterday in a favorable way, and Andy Murray won his match with Janko Tipsarevic having to retire with a hip injury. The main upset for today though was Gilles Simon losing to 30th seeded Victor Hanescu with a simple score of 64 64 62 which was quite a disappointment to the French crowd.

Federer edges past Acasuso
Roger Federer had a mind blowing experience today as he escaped into the last 32 at the French Open '09. Though Federer won today, the score was as close as ever playing against Argentine Jose Acasuso. The score was 76(8) 57 76(2) 62, and Federer definitely showed that he can withstand a mental battle. All other seeds such as Juan Martin del Potro, Andy Roddick and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also won with reasonably better scores.
Novak Djokovic and Philipp Kohlschreiber could not finish their matches for today, so will continue tomorrow.

Nadal books place in year-end finale
Top ranked Rafael Nadal of Spain is the first person to be booked into the year ending championships in London this year.
The Spaniard had a great year so far, by winning the Australian Open and taking 3 Masters shields in Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and Rome. Though Nadal has been beaten by Roger Federer in last week's Madrid Masters, he is very happy that he has officially qualified for the finale which is going to feature the top 8 men on the tour.
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals are scheduled to begin on 22nd November at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Simon toughs it out while Nalbandian loses
Gilles Simon started his campaign at the Estoril Open on the right foot after he defeated American Robert Kendrick in a tough encounter which took an hour and 34 minutes to finish. The Frenchman books his place in the second round after winning 63 76(7). Fifth seeded David Nalbandian was shockingly knocked out by Paul Capdeville of Chile after only 54 minutes of play. The Chilean won 5 out of 6 break points to win the match 62 62.
While at the BMW Open in Munich, two Germans made it through to the next round, they were Nicolas Kiefer and Philipp Kohlschreiber.
At the first ever Serbian Open however, today's play has been stopped due to rain. Not a very bright start to the new tournament :(

Rafa roams in Rome
Rafael Nadal won his 30th consecutive match on clay today and his 16th consecutive win this year to Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard didn't disappoint the crowd today as he won the first set 76(2) after failing to win it at 5-4 on serve. The second set saw Djokovic drop his momentum and Nadal took control of the situation in superb form as he captured his 15th Masters shield, just 2 behind now retired Andre Agassi who has 17 of them.
Djokovic will drop to fourth in the world on May 11 and Andy Murray will take over the third place in the rankings.

Nadal and Djokovic set up showdown
Rafael Nadal put his streak at 29 matches won in a row on clay today as he defeated Fernando Gonzalez. Nadal didn't have any trouble defeating Gonzalez this time and did it with a score of 63 63.
Novak Djokovic played the most exciting match of today as he faced Roger Federer. Federer made his statement for the first part of the match as he took the first set 64. The crowd was pretty sure that Federer would make it to the final, but Novak stepped up to the test to defeat Federer with a final score of 46 63 63.
If Djokovic loses to Nadal tomorrow, Andy Murray will become the new number three in the world.
A lot at stake for Novak tomorrow, but if he will be aggressive, he probably might win.
