After 2 weeks of tremendous play at this year's Australian Open, it all came down to the final round with the top two seeds battling it out in a five-setter. The ending result was history, whether it went to one opponent or the other. Roger Federer was on one side and Rafael Nadal was on the other. But this time it went to Rafael Nadal.
Nadal officially made history today, by becoming the first Spaniard to win the Australian Open. If the victory would have gone to Federer, he would have equalled Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slams. The final score was 75 36 76(3) 36 62, and now Nadal only needs to win the US Open to complete a Golden Slam.
Bravo, Nadal!
