Del Potro does it again

Juan Martin del Potro today has successfully defended his Washington title after having to stretch and fetch against top seeded Andy Roddick. The Argentine had match point at 6-3 in the third set tie-breaker, but sealed it only on his fourth opportunity at 7-6. The match was concluded at 2 hours and 30 minutes, with the score being 36 75 76(8).

"I’m very happy to win another title and defend this championship," said del Potro. "[Roddick is in] much better condition this year. His game has improved a lot. I beat him, but the difference was so close."

Roddick and Del Potro into D.C. final

Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro are one match away from winning the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington D.C., and Del Potro is the holding on to all the pressure as he is the defending champion of the event.

Andy Roddick had to work extremely hard for his final berth after battling it out against compatriot John Isner in a thrilling three-setter. Roddick prevailed though with a score of 67(3) 62 75.Juan Martin del Potro sent Fernando Gonzalez packing after outwitting him in straight sets with a score of 76(2) 63.

The final will be played tomorrow at 3:00 pm local time.

Roddick wins on return; Tsonga upset

Top seeded Andy Roddick was in top form coming into the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. Roddick is looking to win his fourth title at the event and showed his confidence against Benjamin Becker of Germany by beating him with a score of 63 62. He will next face compatriot Sam Querrey who looks to be in top form. The match is expected to be a close one, with results showing that Querrey has a great record since Wimbledon by winning 14 of the 16 matches he has played.

Third seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was upset by another American, John Isner. Tsonga took the first set 64, but Isner then was more fit mentally by taking the tiebreaks in the next two sets. He sure pleases his home crowd and won with a score of 46 76(2) 76(4).

Other winners include Fernando Gonzalez, Robin Soderling, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Ivo Karlovic and Lleyton Hewitt.
