Hewitt wins on return to Washington; Youzhny has successful debut

After three years, Lleyton Hewitt has returned to the Legg Mason Tennis Classic and found success so far as he defeated wildcard Donald Young in straight sets. Playing his first match since Wimbledon, the 2004 Washington champion looked to be in top form and won with a score of 75 62 in a match which featured nine breaks of serve. Since Hewitt has never played Young before he used the advice from fellow Australians Chris Guccione and Carsten Ball to prepare him for the match.

Mikhail Youzhny won his first round match as well, on his debut in Washington. The Russian played American Robert Kendrick and defeated him in three sets, battling it out to win the first set after Kendrick was on serve to try to seize it. The score was 75 36 61, where in the last set the American was only able to win 9 points.

Another American John Isner had opposite fortunes as he beat Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan in straight sets, 76(8) 63

Davydenko demolishes Ferrero

Nikolay Davydenko has captured his second straight title at the Croatia Open in Umag, Croatia this time over Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain. The former French Open champion and world number one Ferrero was completely shattered by Davydenko as the Russian dictated play to win with a score of 63 60.

Sam Querrey was third time lucky as he captured his first title this year after being in his third final for the year. He stopped Australian qualifier Carsten Ball from capturing his first title on the tour with a score of 64 36 61. While in Gstaad, qualifier Thomaz Bellucci from Brazil got hold of his first title after winning with a score of 64 76(2) over German Andreas Beck.

Davydenko and Ferrero will face off on Sunday

Top seed Nikolay Davydenko had a great run this week at the Croatia Open in Umag, Croatia and has reached the final match after easily sweeping past fourth seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria with a score of 61 61. He will face former world number one and fifth seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain who had to use his mental strength to overcome Italian seventh seeded Andreas Seppi, at last defeating him with a score of 61 67(1) 75.

In Gstaad, Switzerland qualifier Thomaz Bellucci has reached the final after removing third seeded Igor Andreev from the draw in straight sets. In Los Angeles, another qualifier reached the final. Carsten Ball of Australia has reached his first ever ATP Tour final and will play either against Tommy Haas or Sam Querrey, who will play later tonight.
