Federer and Soderling make this year's French Open final

Roger Federer is now one more match away from his first French open title and from tieing with Sampras' 14 Grand Slam record. Today he battled against the tall and powerful Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina and won in a five-setter. Federer advanced to his fourth consecutive Roland Garros final with a score of 36 76(2) 26 61 64 and will now face "The Cinderella Man", Robin Soderling of Sweden who is looking to be the first Swedish winner of Roland Garros since Mats Wilander took the title in 1988. Soderling also endured a five set test over Fernando Gonzalez but was able to come through with a score of 63 75 57 46 64 to play in his first clay court final. Federer admits it's not going to be easy, since Soderling is in the shape of his life.

Federer and del Potro set up semi showdown

Roger Federer is now one more match away from another French Open final after beating the last French hope, Gael Monfils. After having a close encounter in the first set but finally taking it with a tie-break win, Federer got into the groove to beat Monfils in straight sets after a time of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

The score was 76(6) 62 64 and now Federer will take on rising star Juan Martin del Potro, who beat former Top 5 player Tommy Robredo also in straight sets to reach his first Grand Slam semifinal. The score was a solid 63 64 62 and now del Potro has a shot at making his first Grand Slam final.

Murray beaten; Soderling reaches higher

Another top seed has been beaten today, this time it was Andy Murray. Murray played Fernando Gonzalez, and Gonzalez was definitely more confident on the clay as he was able to overcome Murray in four sets of 63 36 60 64 to reach the semis of the event. He will next face surprise winner Robin Soderling who had a magical run to the semifinals with wins over David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal, but today he also had the best of luck by beating Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets. Davydenko clearly showed no threat to Soderling and he was able to win it with a score of 61 63 61.

Federer gets closer to the title after Nadal shocker

A day after Rafael Nadal has been beaten for the first time at the French Open, Roger Federer moved on to the quarters after beating Tommy Haas in a five-setter marathon. Federer went from a two set deficit to beat Haas by finishing it off with an emotional "come on". The score was 67(4) 57 64 60 62, and he will next face Gael Monfils who beat Andy Roddick.

Juan Martin del Potro didn't have much trouble brushing off the last French hope Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a score of 61 67(5) 61 64. Del Potro will face Tommy Robredo who was victorious over Philipp Kohlschreiber.
