Safin bruised after Moscow fight

Marat Safin came on court in Perth on Sunday showing cuts and bruises on his face as the result of a fight in Moscow.

The Russian, playing at the Hopman Cup won to Simone Bolelli with a score of 76(5) 64.

Safin stated: "I got in trouble in Moscow." He added: "It's OK, I can survive. Just some small problem that I wasn't in the right place at the right time. Yes, I won the fight. I'm good, I'm OK."

Both Safin and his sister, Dinara lost to Italy in mixed doubles competition, but the tie to finish was 2-1 to Russia.

Murray wins title to Nadal

Andy Murray had a close encounter with Rafael Nadal, but in the end came through to win the exhibition title.

Murray solidly took the first set with a score of 64, then Nadal broke Murray at 5-5 and took the second set 75. The third set made spectators stand in applause as both players grinded at each other, but Murray came through at 3-3 to break Nadal twice to win the match with a score of 64 57 63.

Murray collected his $250,000 for winning the event, but beating Federer and Nadal would have been the highlight of it.

He now will head to the Qatar Open in Doha next week for his first match on the ATP circuit.

Nadal and Murray into final

Andy Murray gave an impressive performance over Roger Federer to take out the Swiss for the fifth time in his career. The final score was 46 62 76(6), which takes Andy to the final of the event where he will face number one in the world Rafael Nadal aka Raging Bull or Rafa.

Rafael Nadal on the other hand had an easier match, in which he took out Nikolay Davydenko with an easy 62 63. This is Nadal's fourth time knocking out the Russian, and he did it in such spectacular fashion: an ace on match point.

Good luck to both Nadal and Murray in the final.

Murray and Davydenko win in UAE

Andy Murray wins his opening match at the Capitala World Tennis Championship over James Blake. The final score was 62 62, and gets Murray to the semifinals where he will face Roger Federer (once again).

"It's the first time I've played James in about three years so I expected it to be a tough match," said Murray, "but I played much better than expected for the first match of the year."

Nikolay Davydenko also won his match over Andy Roddick with a score of 64 64, and will now face Rafael Nadal in the semis. Both Federer and Nadal got byes to the semis.

"Nikolay played a great game," said Roddick. "I could have done better but this was just my first match of the year. Hopefully, the game will be much better than what it was today."
